ABOUT US
Arpana - which means "offering," started in the Parish Hall of All Saints' Church in June 1981 with around 20 children. The school is committed to the education and support of mentally challenged children who may otherwise receive no schooling and would have been unable to lead a normal life.
The Education Committee of the Church of South India, Karnataka Centre Diocese, administers Arpana School for Special Education. The Church of South India Board of Child Care funds this school, which is managed by the School Board.
In its 38 years of journey, Arpana has risen from strength to strength, and now has 60 children, 16 girls and 44 boys. The students range in age from 3 to 20 years old, with a mental age of no more than 15. All of the children are from the community's poorest neighborhoods, including those from slums. The majority of the children at Arpana come from Hindu families, with a limited number from Muslim and Christian families. They all have mental disabilities of different degrees.
Arpana aims to encourage its students in adjusting to any type of mental disorder they might have and provide them with adequate practical knowledge so that they can reintegrate into society and lead a happy, normal life
Arpana caters to the interests of children with special needs who come from families living below the poverty line, regardless of caste or religion. Arpana School believes that empowering children with special needs can bring about positive changes in the community, and we provide them with special education, medical assessment, vocational training, behavioral modification, vocational training, counseling, intervention, and creative and recreational opportunities to ensure holistic awareness-raising programs in the Community.
Arpana School provides a high level of special education with individualized curricula for each student. Students love the special [one-on-one] plan that meets their global needs—physical, behavioral, cognitive, artistic, social, and spiritual. The aim is to maximize the quality of life of children and to encourage them to engage as much as possible in the world around them. Children are seeing great success. They have begun to uncover secret gifts, to acquire new abilities that have developed a sense of self-worth in them, and to inspire them to have a brighter future.
